IF YOU DISCOVER A FIRE
Immediately operate the nearest fire alarm call point
ON HEARING THE FIRE ALARM
DAY STAFF – The Officer in Charge (or deputy) or
NIGHT STAFF – Night Staff will dial _____ 999 and call the Fire Brigade immediately giving the Exchange Operator the premises telephone number ________
Then ask for Fire. When the Fire Brigade operator replies give your call clearly FIRE AT __________
DO NOT REPLACE RECEIVER UNTIL ADDRESS HAS BEEN REPEATED BY THE FIRE BRIGADE
Staff proceed to the Fire Alarm Control Panel, closing doors on route.
Staff (two or more) identify the DANGER ZONE or DETECTOR showing on Control Panel and carry out a search using the DOOR-CHECK PROCEDURES. At first operate a Stay-Put policy.
Day staff subsequently report back to the Officer in Charge who then briefs the Fire Brigade on their arrival.
If a fire is discovered the initial objective is to evacuate occupants from the zone affected to behind fire doors (two) on the same floor level. The fire brigade on their arrival will declare any further actions.
Only attack the fire with the appliance available IF you are familiar with their use, are in no immediate danger and can be spared to act.

Do not use lifts.
Do not enter smoke-logged areas or the building after evacuation.
