Health & Safety Signs
Established in 2005, TCOB Ltd has been supplying and designing high quality, low cost safety signage for over 15 years. Virtually all of our safety signs have rounded corners which not only look good but are a safety feature in themselves. Clipped corners reduce the risk of cuts and scrapes to passing limbs, whilst also making them less susceptible to damage.
Several choices exist in terms of layout, size and materials for most signs. The standard signs listed are available in high quality self adhesive vinyl and 1mm rigid plastic with many also available as photoluminescent. We can also supply custom signs and sizes, and alternative materials such as 5mm plastic, corex, foamex, metal, alupanel etc… to a design of your choosing, including the addition of business names and logos.
Buying Signs for Schools
We sell more signs to schools and colleges than any other sector and recognise that a corporate credit card isn’t always available to enable you to complete your order online. If you are purchasing signs on behalf of a school, college or university then we will gladly accept an official purchase order via email or post. All we ask is that payment is made within 30 days of delivery. What we suggest is that you still go through the process of adding the items you require to the shopping cart, stating the quantities as required, so that any relevant discounts are applied and the shipping cost is also worked out for you. Rather than duplicating all this information into your purchase order simply print from your browser window and attach a copy to your purchase order, which can just be a one line summary of your order, and simply email both items to us.
Postage & Packing
The online shopping cart is for UK customers only. We do ship to the Channel Islands, Ireland and overseas but additional charges may apply, so please contact us in the first instance. Postage & packing is £3.50 (excl. VAT). Ordinarily Royal Mail 1st Class services will be used, with signs being received 1 to 3 days after despatch. For larger orders, depending on total order weight & value, Next Day Special Delivery, Parcel Force or courier services will generally be used. Most of the items we supply are either stock items, or deliverable within 3-4 days from order date. If delivery of your order is time critical then we suggest contacting us, firstly to confirm this is possible, and secondly a higher delivery charge may apply.
For public sector organisations we recognise that a corporate credit card isn’t always available. We are glad to accept Official Purchase Orders and offer credit facilities to public organisations such as: Schools, Colleges and Universities; Local and Central Government Departments; Charities, Housing Associations. Subject to approval, we are happy to offer credit accounts also to businesses that anticipate ordering on a regular basis, but advance payment may be requested on initial orders. The easiest way for you to place orders is via the online shopping cart, but we appreciate that this is not always possible or desirable. If so, please email your order along with company details and we will consider your request for a credit account.
Which material to use?
Self adhesive signs are generally the cheapest and are most suited to interior use. They can also prove to be the most time-consuming and trickiest to position though, especially if you have no finger nails to peel the backing off in the first instance! The smaller they are the easier they are to position straight and without bubbling, however the larger they get the trickier they can be to put in place – get it wrong and you may end up with sloping signage, and if you peel it off to try again you may remove paint from walls and tear the sign, costing more money and time to put right. They can be used outside also in some cases, but are restricted by the number of surfaces they adhere to and wont stick to brick walls for example. Perfect also for some poles and pillars.
This is why those that install lots of signs generally opt for rigid plastic signs. They cost a little bit more but are a good all-rounder for internal and external use and can be applied to pretty much any flat surface. If being screwed into place (we can add the holes for free) then making sure they are perfectly level is easier – mark the position with a spirit level and use the sign itself as the template to mark where to screw or drill into. Double-sided sign tape and/or sign adhesive can also be used to quickly position signs. By combining tape with adhesive, the tape can help to hold the sign in position whilst the adhesive sets avoiding the need to hold signs in place for the duration of the bonding process. They can also be attached to fences and poles by way of cable-ties or string. So, although slightly more expensive, the plastic signs can be much easier and faster to work with. Both self adhesive and plastic signs are easy to clean with a damp cloth or spray, but in a greasy or dirty environment such as a kitchen self adhesive signs are generally better and more hygieneic as dirt and germs cannot hide in any gaps at the back or along the edges.
Most of our signs have clipped corners which help to limit damage, but self adhesive signs are perhaps more likely to be damaged by little fingers and keys etc… depending on their location. Consideration should also be given to the potential damage that may arise to walls, doors, windows etc… if you ever have to remove the signs for redecorating or making good at the end of a lease perhaps. Self adhesive signs may pull off layers of paint and even plaster when removed, and when you start peeling off you just have to go with it and hope for the best! The same can be true of rigid plastic signs that have been stuck to walls, but a blob of glue in each corner maybe all that was required to hold them in place. Rather than just pull the signs off the wall, you will probably be able to gently run a wallpaper scraper behind the sign to cut through the adhesive causing minimal damage to make good. And if they were screwed into place, then easy to unscrew and maybe just 4 holes to fill and paint over.
